Lofts in Boston today are somewhat different than they were several years ago. The uptake of industrial spaces by Boston developers has led to an increase in loft conversions and with it new developments in this type of residence. Creatives, such as designers and photographers, used to be the primary market for these spaces, fond of the charm of the exposed brick and beam, high ceilings, and large windows flooding the spaces with natural light. Originally a more inexpensive option than their luxury condominium counterparts, lofts began to see a shift.
As more and more people became interested in this type of residence, the prices began to increase and a new market of luxury buyers emerged. With this shift, the types of Boston buildings lofts were found in also changed. Instead of converted spaces, developers invested in building completely new buildings tailored to the luxury market.
Lofts like Court Square Press and 319A, an industrial-style loft building in Fort Point that brings the industrial feel into a contemporary space, are prime examples of this new luxury loft market.
